4th of July Snack Munch

As you may have noticed, I love all things 4th of July. You can read about my favorite 4th of July Memories Here . For me it is not just about the Red, White, and Blue of it all. And, it is not just about the holiday, fireworks, family, and fun. I really love to remember that there are a group of men and women who over time have made the ultimate sacrifice, so that we can be free! Definitely worth a celebration! I of course also love snacks and finding snacks that my family will love. In our family we often enjoy what we call Munch. You may have heard of Chex Mix, or Puppy Chow.

We celebrate Independence Day or the 4th of July about an hour away in my Brother’s town. We do this for 3 reasons. One, we celebrate every other holiday at my house, so it makes sense to have one out at his. Second, out county does not allow any fireworks, and his county does all fireworks. And finally, he is the Pastor to a church, and their parking lot is the perfect space to set off fireworks! So, every year we travel to his town, and so making foods that will travel well is always on my list of factors.

4th of July Red, White, and Blue Munch

4th of July Red, White, and Blue munch is perfect for this! Since it is made with only a few ingredients, stores well, and does not melt, it travels very well! Plus, it is the perfect snack to munch on (do you see why we call it munch) while we are waiting for dusk to come so that we can set off fireworks. I have shared quite a few of the other Munch’s that our family enjoys, and you can check them out below.

St. Patrick’s Day Munch

Valentine’s Strawberry White Chocolate Munch

Pumpkin Spice Munch

I have included the recipe for 4th of July Red, White, and Blue munch in it’s simplest form.  And, you can jazz it up anyway you want. I used Red, White, and Blue regular M and M’s, but you could also use the peanut version. This year I have a two-year-old and five-year-old coming to our 4th of July festivities so I decided to go a little more on the mild side. If you want to go a little wilder and really make it pop, you can include a sprinkling of Red and Blue pop rocks, or some Red Tamale Candies. It will keep the festive theme, but definitely ad an explosion of flavor! 😊

Quick and Easy Snack Munch, perfect for 4th of July.

Cuisine American
Keyword #Recipe, 4th of July, Chex Mix, Independence Day, Puppy Chow, Red, White, and Blue, Snack, Snack Mix
Prep Time 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/4 Cup Butter
  • 2 11 Oz Bag White Baking Chips
  • 10 Cups Rice Chex
  • 2 Cups Powdered Sugar
  • 3 Cups Red, White, and Blue M and M's Candies You can also use Hot Tamale Candies, small Red Licorice, Pop rocks, or any red or blue candy.

Instructions

  1. Place 1 cup of powered sugar into each of two gallon sized ziplock bags.

  2. Melt Butter and White Baking Chips in a microwave safe bowl by cooking fro 15 seconds at a time. Stir between each cooking until the chips and butter are smooth and creamy. Do Not Over Cook. This step can also be done on a low heat on the stove, but is more successful in the microwave.

  3. Pour Rice or other Chex into the pan and gently fold until cereal is covered in the creamy mixture.

  4. Pour half of mixture into each of two Ziplock bags that contain the powered sugar. Seal bags and "fluff around" until all of the cereal is coated in powdered sugar.

  5. Pour into a bowl and pour in candies. Fold until incorporated, and serve. Store any remaining Munch Mix in an airtight container for up to a week.

Great recipe for a great holiday! Thanks for mentioning that it’s not just about fireworks, but also about the troops who have fought for almost 250 years to keep ours a free nation. Enjoy your 4th!

Oh, this really looks good!!!! I love trail mix. I eat way too much of it. It’s my dessert. Sometimes breakfast. I think I’m addicted. I have to try this one. My favorite is Caramel Cashews (from Target). I buy it in the big bucket!! Your recipe is perfect to put out for our July 4th party we are having this year!
