5 Tips to Make Sunday Awesome
Have you ever just needed to take a break, but were not sure how? Or rather when? I totally understand how you feel. I often feel as a woman that I have two full time jobs. First, my work as a blogger, and then my job as a homemaker. It can truly be exhausting. Of course, I love both jobs, and would not want to give either up, but sometimes, I just need a break from it all. Or, just from the usual. So today I am sharing 5 Tips to Make Sunday Awesome, and of course the rest of the week will benefit as well!
5 Tips to Make Sunday Awesome
1 Planning ahead
To truly be able to have Sunday as a day of rest and recreation, we need to plan ahead. This can get complicated if you want to change your plan every week, but I find that simplicity is key to success. So, more times that not, I have the same weekend plan. Unless there is a big holiday or event, our plan remains the same. It makes it easy to plan for, and I simply put everything in motion.
First, I look at the calendar to see if there are any important events for the weekend, and then plan accordingly in my menu. I have my weekend menu, and the week ahead menu planned by Thursday Morning. I put in my order online at Walmart Grocery pickup, and then have a family member pick it up on Friday morning. Then I know I have everything I need but didn’t have to take the time to go grocery shopping. In fact, I put my grocery list directly into the Walmart website as I plan the menu. Super Easy.
2 Cook Ahead or Plan to Eat Out
We typically have family over on the weekend, and I love that! I love to prepare for my family, cook for my family, and plan fun activities. But I don’t want to cook the whole weekend! So, I Cook Ahead or Plan to eat out. What do I mean? We typically make bigger meals on Saturday’s, so that Sundays are truly a day of rest…. even for Mom!
On Saturday Mornings I make a big Coffee Cake and Bacon, or a Breakfast Burritos, or even a Breakfast Casserole. I make enough that my family can heat leftover up Sunday Morning while getting ready for church. Then for Saturday “Linner”, usually served around 3, I make enough for Sunday Dinner. Then all we have to do is make our after-Church lunch, which is more often than not Tuna Sandwiches of some sort. It’s quick and easy, and we all enjoy them.
This totally takes the cooking on Sunday pressure off. We make sure that the dishwasher is cleared out on Saturday Night so that we can load our dishes directly in as we finish. There won’t be any pots or pans because all of the cooking was completed on Saturday. It makes Sunday’s nice, and ensures that Monday starts off on the right foot as well! Or, if you don’t want to cook that much on Saturday, go out for Sunday Meals.
3 Don’t leave your cleaning for Sunday
One of the things I love about our family’s chore chart, is that it focuses the main chores Monday thru Thursday. This way, we can use Friday to do a simple pick up, and then prepare for the weekend, and start with any special cooking if planned. On Saturday’s we tend to do bigger jobs like cleaning out the garage or cutting wood. All of this leaves Sunday Free for relaxing and having fun. Each person in our family has an assigned laundry day that they can use the Washer/Dryer and are required to remove all items by the end of the day. It works out nice. There might always be the need to do a little clean up on Sunday, but don’t plan for it. Plan to have it all done, so that you can relax on Sunday. Also, if you plan your cleaning and housework to be finished before Sunday, your time will be free to jump into a Netflix Binge watch, or a walk in the country. Really, whatever makes you feel refreshed.
4 Focus on Different Activities
If you are truly looking at recreating yourself for a new week ahead, try to plan a different type of activity. For instance, if you are typically indoors all week, try to plan a Sunday Hike, or time outside. Plan to put the phone down, turn off devices, and appreciate the moments with family and friends.
It’s a great idea to sit down with family and decide what to do on one Sunday a month. Maybe a trip to a pumpkin patch or the lake. It could be a joint binge watch on Netflix. Or maybe to read through a book together as a family. Sometimes, it’s the simplest of things, like planning time around the fire pit, sharing s’mores and good conversation. It really is about taking time to do something that builds you up and prepares you for the week ahead.
5 Plan in Self-Care
I always find that taking time to do something simple but special for yourself has great value. For years, I spent Sunday evening giving myself a manicure. It could be considered work, but at the same time it made me feel good all week to have my nails done. It was nurturing, and I loved it. Maybe Sunday night could be your night to put on a mask or take a bubble bath. Whatever it is that you love. Make it be something that you love, and makes you feel well cared for.
I hope you have found these tips to be helpful. These tips are all easy to implement, but make a huge difference in your Sunday, and your ability to be refreshed before the coming week.
