How to Create a Fall Bucket List

We are now into Fall, which is my FAVORITE season of all! I love it! I love everything about it! The colors of the crisp leaves, the turn from hot to cool, blankets, candles, hot beverages, apple ranches, the list goes on and on! But of course, time flies quickly. It seems to go buy more quickly every year, and so I like to make bucket lists for various seasons or Holidays. In other words, I don’t want to miss out on my favorite things, just because I am busy. So, I thought I would share with you How to Create a Fall Bucket List, so that you can create your own Fall Bucket List, and you won’t miss a thing!
The first step is sometimes the most challenging. You need to figure out who needs to be involved in making the bucket list, and how much time you and your family or friends will have to complete the items on the list. With the regular ebb and flow of life, there will be years that you can be involved in loads of Fall activities, and then years, where you will truly be only able to do a few. So, involve your family or friends, decide on the time available to accomplish items, and get started on creating your Fall Bucket List.
In an Idyllic World…
In an idyllic world, you would have your fellow bucket listers come to a well-dressed Fall table, complete with Apple Cider Bar, fresh baked treats, and iconic pumpkins dressing the area. Ahhh. But that is not often the case. If you have older kids, you might want to make a family text to collect everyone’s ideas and schedules. Our family has a private family Snap Chat where we can share these types of items, as well as wish lists at Christmas. If you have younger kids, maybe give them a few options by showing them possible choices on the internet and then having everyone vote on the best ideas. Of course, compromise is always important, but in the end, whoever is paying for, and orchestrating the items on the bucket list has final say.

If your family has never had a Fall Bucket List, you might want to print off a bucket list found on Pinterest or look for ideas on google. There are amazing ideas out there that over the years I have incorporated into my Fall Bucket Lists. Each year some items stay the same, and I either remove or add a few here or there depending on the age of my family members, and how busy we are.
Listen to Your Family, Really Listen
Also, take a moment to really listen to your family. I know that sometimes in the age of Social Media it is tempting to have amazing outings, in matching clothes, with a Pumpkin Spice Latte for everyone. But truthfully, sometimes the simplest days are the best spent. When I made out our families Summer Bucket List, I didn’t really think about simple days enough. At the end of Summer I asked my Granddaughter what she thought was the most fun we had over the summer. She said it was playing in the “orchard”.
What was playing the “orchard” you might ask? This summer my granddaughter’s Daddy built a Tree House for her in the backyard. It is a massive treehouse that will end up being about 140 Square Feet when finished. And it will have a slide, stairs, windows, and everything else imaginable. Because it is so tremendous, it will take 2 summers to finish, and until all the safety measures are in place, she is not allowed to even play in the treehouse.
Her favorite memory is her Daddy and Uncle working on the treehouse, her Stepmom and myself sitting in a chair about 20 feet away, and her playing with an old yo-yo she found. She loved that music was playing in the background, we would all singalong when a familiar song came on. And, every now and then, one of us would accept the challenge, and chase her through our 18 pistachio trees that are called the “orchard”. It might not seem like a lot, but it was her favorite summer memory. I say all of this to say, don’t underestimate the small things on your Fall Bucket List. Sometimes, just sitting and being a family, no phones, or devices, just an old Yo-yo is the time best spent.
Make a Chart and Share it with Your Family
So, after you decide everything that you want on your Fall Bucket List, make up a little chart so that you will be able to check out items as they are completed. This little chart can become a keepsake in your scrapbook, in our house, a keepsake in the bin of items that will someday be a scrapbook when we have time to do it. Lol. Truthfully, I totally respect people that have the discipline to scrapbook, and I have done some of it in my past. But, at this point in my life, I would rather sit in the Orchard watching a grandbaby play with an old Yo-Yo than scrap book. But, someday… Put the chart in a place where everyone can see it, and get excited, and add dates in as you book them into your calendar.
Don’t think everything has to be big, something as simple as buying pumpkin spice coffee creamer can be on your Fall Bucket List. After all, it is your list. Don’t be pressured from others, make your list, and enjoy it.
Below is my Fall Bucket List. Truthfully, I have already gotten started on a few of the items on the list. Because as I said, I LOVE Fall!
My Fall Bucket List
Go to the Local Apple Ranch and Pumpkin Patch
Every year we love to go to the local apple ranch, Cover’s. It is a local favorite for many reasons. First, the people that own the ranch are super awesome and hardworking. They keep the place up nicely and it is a simple, but great place to take family. The Ranch sets up a Pumpkin Patch and Hay Maze that is perfect for little kids. There is an old train that runs through the property and the Apple Orchards. There is a little petting zoo area, a pond with ducks, and a playground. I of course love that you can take home a Mile-High Apple Pie, and plenty of other yummy treats. If you are ever in Sonora, CA, I highly recommend taking a visit to this local gem.
Buy Pumpkin Spice Creamer
During the Year I rarely ever purchase creamer for my coffee, and just pour in milk, or almond milk, or whatever we have on hand. But as the Fall arrives, I think it is such a nice treat, and fills my mind with ideas for Fall Baking!

Decorate the House for Fall
I love Fall decorations and have a few that I truly love. I keep them in a bin during the off season, and then just pull them out, dust them off, and place them around my home. It adds such a lovely touch to the inside of our home, of everything that is happening outside of our home.
Have a Fall Binge Watch
With Summer being so busy, I didn’t have time for any good binge watches. So, when Fall began, my Mom, youngest daughter, and myself started a Downton Abbey Binge and it has been awesome!!!! First, we never have to decide what to watch, because we know we are watching Downton Abbey until it is finished! Second, I have found that we all sit up a little straighter when we watch Downton Abbey, and third I have found it goes perfectly with homemade Pumpkin Spice Munch!
Candles, Candles, Candles!
I am a person that has candles going year-round because I love the fresh scent, and the warm glow. But in the Fall, I pull out all the stops! I don’t just have one candle; I have candles throughout the house! Many burning on the fireplace mantle, and on the kitchen table. I move the lemon, and tropical scented candles away, and bring in the Pumpkin Spice, Cinnamon, and Vanilla Cupcake scented candles!
Close up Summer and Put it away
Now, this might not seem like a lot of fun, but it is worth it. In the Fall, we seal up our Swamp Cooler for the season, and close all the vents so that we won’t have a cool draft all winter. We do any weather proofing needed, cut enough wood for winter fires, and pack up the BBQ for the year. It is always sad to see the BBQ go, but I know when we take it out in the spring, preserving it will have been worth it. It is also a good time to put away lawn chairs, camping equipment, and outdoor summer toys. Pack them up and put them away for the following year.
Test Halftime Recipes
I truly feel like my halftime recipes need to add a few new players to the lineup! I have been using some of my recipes for more than 20 years. So, this Fall, I am going to spend a little time during football season making a few new recipes and trying them out on my family. This will help me be ready for Super Bowl which is our favorite football game of the year. We have a few allergies in our family, like Gluten Free and Lactose Intolerance. So, we need a few new recipes for that reason as well! I can’t wait and of course will share them all with you!
Make Leaf Art with the Little Ones
We have a 5-year-old and 2-year-old who love exploring the yard. I think Fall is the perfect time to collect Leaves, Pine cones, Acorns, and whatever else little hands might find. And, all of those little fall keepsakes are perfect in a collage. My Mom has always made what she calls, “Cooks Collage”. It is a gluppy stuff that dries somewhat hard, but with a lovely sparkle from the salt. It is the perfect medium to stick all sorts of rocks, pine cones, and outdoor treasures into, typically a meat tray makes a great base. It’s just a fun way to make Fall art, and you can add orange food coloring if you like.
Linda’s Cooks Collage
Flour- About 1 Cup
Salt- About 1 Cup
Water- About 1 Cup
You can adjust it to work best with your flour. When mixed it should have a consistency similar to a soft biscuit dough. Pliable enough to stick things into it, but not so runny that it will make too big of a mess. Plus, it needs to dry eventually. Usually about a day or two.
Have Family Over for A Chili Bar
We jump started this a little, and I shared it in a recent blog post. I love making a huge pot of Chili and you can read about it in this post Fall Chili Bar and 5 Easy Hospitality Tips . Of course, I don’t think we have to limit ourselves to just one, right? We will be having another Chili Bar, and probably a Stew or Soup Bar is on the horizon as well! Ahh, the smells of Stew simmering away!
Have a Few Relaxing Breakfasts with Family
We are usually on the go most of the year. Summer we are up and out at the lake or working on a project. And then it turns into Soccer Season which we love, but basically means no meandering over breakfast on Saturday. So, this Fall, I am planning a few brunch Saturday’s where we can sit at the table. The plan is to cook good food, and then taking time to enjoy spending time together. I of course will be enjoying coffee with Pumpkin Spice Cream in it! 🙂
I hope this post inspires you to make up your Fall Bucket List, and of course to start enjoying it. Remember to make it your own, don’t cave in to pressure to have the perfect Pinterest Fall Bucket List. Create the list that fits your family and friends, and truly enjoy Fall!
