I spent a lot of time today eating Newman’s Own Ginger O’s. Previous to today I had never eaten them, but I must say…they are delicious! Truthfully, I purchased the cookies because they are in Orange packaging, look as if they belong to an autumn food category, and well yes, I want to be a part of the “pumpkin spice” everything craze.
Cookie Eating Extravaganza
But about halfway through my Ginger O’s cookie eating extravaganza, I looked on the back and found information on the social giving aspect of the company. Over $400,000,000 has been given to organizations in need. That is a lot of money. It piqued my interest so I went to the Newman’s Own Foundation website at www.newmansownfoundation.org. The page that caused the most emotion to flow, was the page simply titled, “Our Founder”. The page shares a brief bio of Paul Newman and his charitable giving. His legacy.

I don’t have a page about my legacy, but I know one is being written. For each of us, the truth of our legacy is written each day whether we like it or not. Will we be remembered as generous or stingy? Can we save on our own costs, so we can give to others who have so much less? Will we have a passion that reached outside the walls of our home, and outside the walls of our brain? Could we take what was given to us, make more, and share? Paul Newman did. I want to be more like Paul Newman. I really, really do.
What will your Legacy be?
Giving is so easy these days. You would not think that buying, and consuming, a package of cookies could do any good in the world, But apparently, it can. Apparently, it can give over $400,000,000 to those who are in need if we collectively eat enough cookies. I am definitely up for the task! Who is with me?
Most of us have not founded a charity, but all of us will leave a legacy. You can read more about my thoughts on leaving a legacy here. Each day we choose what our legacy will be. Choose well.
