Simple Deviled Eggs
I love Eggs! In fact, you can read about it in this post about Eggs. After all, they are healthy, protein packed flavor bombs that pack a decadent punch when prepared right. I love everything about them, and truly, I love them prepared almost every way! With that in mind, I wanted to share with you my favorite simple deviled egg recipe.
First, I must admit that I make deviled eggs, and egg sandwiches a lot throughout the year. I love the combination of flavors, and the creaminess of the texture. And, I love that Simple Deviled Eggs are a nice protein filled addition to the table. I have four kids, and as they were growing, I was always trying to ensure that party menus and appetizer tables were filled with a little protein to counteract the starch and sugar. Enter Deviled Eggs!
Deviled Eggs are Affordable
Deviled Eggs are not only easy, they are affordable. For the cost of a carton of eggs, and some simple ingredients you have around the house, you can make and display a delectable treat for your family and friends. And, I always make a few extra eggs for throwing into salads, sandwiches, or for the perfect mid afternoon protein pick me up!
A quick word about boiling your eggs. For years, we were of the camp that brought the water to a boil, and then put the eggs in and cooked them. Recently I tried the method of putting the eggs into cold salted water, bringing to a boil, and then removing from the heat. I found that both work equally as well. So, use your favorite method, and you will be ready to make Simple Deviled Eggs. I did forget what I was doing….um…and overcooked this last batch a bit, but I used them anyway and added a dash more mayo. I also had a few ugly whites. If this happens to you, you can either eat them….mash them finely in your yolk mixture…or give them to your taste testers.
Deviled Eggs are Versatile
And, they are so versatile. I am sharing a basic recipe, but you can dress it up any way that you want! You can add more mayo if you want them creamier, and more mustard if you want to pack a punch of flavor. If I were the only person eating them, I would add more Tabasco, and dare I say a pinch of cayenne. But, my family is not interested in that amount of devilish goodness, so I keep it a little simpler. My Mother loves it when I add pickle relish, and I have also made them with a dash of horseradish.
On the top you can decorate to fit your flavor fancies, as well as the occasion. For a truly fancy occasion, a few bits of caviar elevate the look and flavor. You can use a pipping bag as I have with a star tip, or simply use a spoon. I love to go old school and sprinkle a bit of paprika on the finished eggs. Sometimes, I sprinkle the eggs with finely chopped chives or green onions. Or, you can top with a mince of roasted red pepper to add both color and flavor.
You can’t go wrong with Deviled Eggs
Truly with Deviled Eggs you can’t go wrong. Use the basic recipe, and then keep notes on how you changed, grew, removed, and added until you found your perfect recipe, and then enjoy!
