Valentines Gifts

Valentines Gifts

If you are like me, you will suddenly realize that Christmas has been over for a while, and Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. I woke up this morning realizing that I need to start making a plan for Valentine’s Day!

As I approach any holiday where gifts are involved, I look for gifts that my family will love. I adore my family and want them to know how very special they are to me and Valentine’s is the perfect holiday to share that love. But, I also want to give back. I consider myself and my family to be incredibly fortunate. Now, let me explain, we are not wealthy, we don’t have a huge home, we don’t have brand new cars. But, if you weigh our lives against so many others in the United States and abroad, we are incredibly fortunate. Because of that, I love for gift purchases to have a double meaning and double impact. In other words, not only do I care about you, but together we care about others.

My List of Valentine’s Gifts that Give Back

With this in mind, I would like to share with you this year’s list of Valentine’s Gifts That Give Back! Many of the gifts on this list are available through Amazon for ease in shopping. My Amazon Affiliate disclosure is below, and I will also disclose I don’t have a personal, romantic Valentine this year. And that is okay, I have still offered ideas for your Valentine! In our family, we purchase Valentine’s cards and a little candy or gift for the whole family, so I have included some ideas for everyone on the list!

Need a Valentine’s Gift for that Special Someone

RED.ORG

This brings me to the Red.Org website where you can find amazing products for shopping. Perfect for Valentines as they are RED (you get extra points for this), and of very high quality. Red.Org is in the fight to end AIDS and wants to partner with you do just that. Red.Org partners with some of my favorite companies to produce products specifically for the Red campaign which fights AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa. I must admit that I don’t think about AIDS Charities as much as I should as it is still a devastating challenge in many countries of the world. According to HIV.Gov, over 1 million people died from AIDS-related illnesses in 2016.

Perfect for Teens and Kids

If you need a cushy place for your kids and teens to lounge, read, or hang out with their friends, I love the Fatboy(RED) BeanBag Chair . With each purchase, the manufacturer will donate 10% to Red.Org and the fight against AIDS.

Gifts that give sight

If you are looking for a Gift to set the mood, or just brighten up the evening,  the Two Blind Brothers Blackout Candle is perfect! 100% of the proceeds from the purchase of the Blackout Candle go to preclinical research for children with Stargardt’s disease. What a perfect way to set the mood for your special night, and give the light of day to children. Two Blind Brothers company is partnering with customers to help end blindness. 100% of the profits from purchases go directly into funding hours of research. Last year, Two Blind Brothers and their customers funded over 30,000 hours of clinical studies per their website. The company as you may have guessed was founded by Two Blind Brothers.

The Perfect Gift for the Valentine who has it All and Wants to Really Give Back

So maybe you are looking for something for the person who has everything. Then the perfect gift is a flock of chickens from Heifer.Org. Don’t worry, I am not thinking that you should have a flock of live chicks sent to your true love, that is a little too Partridge in a Pear Tree for most people. But by donating $20.00 to Heifer.Org, a flock of chickens will be donated to a family in need, somewhere in the world. Heifer’s website shares that a chicken can lay approximately 200 eggs per year! That will keep a family well fed, and potentially help the family bring in additional income. I love eggs and have loved purchasing gifts through Heifer.Org thru the years. To learn more about my great love for eggs, read this post.

Eggs! My Favorite!

Perfect for the Book Lover on Your List

I recently read the book, Kisses from Katie by Katie Davis about her time living and loving in Uganda. Throughout the book, she shared about children who were born with AIDS in Uganda. It reminded me that this is still a very important global health issue. If you want more information about Kisses from Katie, you can read my blog post about the book here.

What to get, when you don’t know what to give

Finally, you might be in the situation of having no idea what to get, do, say, or share with your Valentine this February 14th. Don’t worry, I have been there myself. A good read would be The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love that Lasts by Gary Chapman. This book has been fundamental in helping my family know how to love each other and even extended family and friends. It is a great help in knowing if your sweetheart would be moved by a big expensive, well thought out gift? Or, if a quiet evening spending time talking together would really be the dream gift. There are quite a few editions available such as Singles, Men’s, Women’s, Kids, and Teens. I have placed a link below to the original 5 love languages.

Whether you are planning a big Valentine’s Day Night Out, or a simple night at home, I hope that my list helps you to create the perfect day for love! I personally am planning dinner with my family. Then we will take some time to share with each person the thing we love most about each other (always important when you have teens). Then we will finish the evening with a few sweet treats. I hope that your Valentine’s Day is filled with Love and Giving!

I am a sucker for candlelights. A vanilla scented (actually any scent will do) candle with chocolates would be the ideal gift

These are great gift ideas, and it is so wonderful that not only are you purchasing a gift for your loved one, but also inadvertently helping others! On another note, you can’t go wrong with Le Creuset.

Really great post with really great ideas. I feel like if you are going to give someone a gift, give them something that they can use and a bonus would be if it helps someone out.
